# Press Release from MITRE

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share some exciting news about the future of Bristlemouth. As you may have heard at BristleCon, Bristlemouth is developing a strategic partnership with [MITRE](https://www.mitre.org/).

The [press release](https://www.mitre.org/news-insights/news-release/mitre-lead-ocean-technology-standards-work) has been published!

The key takeaways are:

- MITRE will establish the world’s first _Bristlemouth Center of Excellence_ at their [BlueTech Lab](https://bluetech.mitre.org/) in Massachusetts, creating a testbed for developers and users.
- Through its independent mandate, MITRE will help create a sustainable standard development framework and governance board for Bristlemouth.

As [Nicholas Rotker](https://www.mitre.org/impact-report/nick-rotker), MITRE’s Chief BlueTech Strategist, explains:

> “To accelerate ocean and maritime technology, we need to eliminate needless burdens and barriers. A connectivity standard for ocean technology will enable new entrants to reduce the time it takes to get innovative hardware from the lab bench to the ocean.”

We’ll have more on the partnership as it develops along with more information on what this means for developers and users along with details on any new opportunities. If you have any questions let us know here – we might not be able to answer them right away but we’ll definitely answer them when we can.

Congratulations! Sounds like a great opportunity for Bristlemouth. Hopefully, the goings on in Washington these days doesn’t affect their funding and the good work that they do.
